Shri VishwaNathashtakam
Shri VishwaNathashtakam is a Sanskrit Stotra. It is told by Maharshi Vyas. This is a praise of God Shiva who lives in Varanashi Puri. He is head or king of Varanashi Puri. There are 10 stanzas. Maharshi Vyas is telling us to worship VaranashiPoorPati God Shiva.
1) Matted hair of God Shiva is looking like, beautiful waves of river Ganga. Presence of Goddess Parvati at the left side of him (God Shiva), contributes in the decoration, He is loved by God Narayan. He destroyed pride of God of love (KamaDeva). Devote; worship God (Shiva) VishwaNatha who is king of varanashipoori.2) Our tongue can’t describe him (God VishwaNatha). He has many virtues and many swaroopas (avatars). God Brahma, God Vishnu and other Gods are always found in his service. His left side is his wife, Parvati. Devote; worship God (Shiva) VishwaNatha who is king of varanashipoori.3) He is leader of Ghosts. His body is decorated by serpents and Nagas like ornaments. He has worn clothes made up of tiger-skin. Pasha, Ankush, and Shoola are the weapons in his hand and Abhaya (No fear) and Vara (Blessings) are for his devotees Devote; worship God (Shiva) VishwaNatha who is king of varanashipoori.4) Moon rays are decorating him; He has destroyed God of love with the fire of his (third) eye which is on his forehead. He has earrings of very big serpents in his ears which are shining. Devote; worship God (Shiva) VishwaNatha who is king of varanashipoori.5) He is like a lion that destroys big elephants of sins. He becoming as an eagle is destroyer of demons which are appearing as big serpents. He is also remover of fear of death, sorrow, unhappiness and oldness; which come in our life like a dangerous forest. He appears as a fire and burnt this forest. Devote; worship God (Shiva) VishwaNatha who is king of varanashipoori.6) He is very lustrous, He is with concrete form as well as he is without form, there is nobody like him, He is always delighted. He is always victorious nobody can defeat him, He is beyond comparison. He has serpents on his body. He has neither old age nor death; he is always young at all times. Devote; worship God (Shiva) VishwaNatha who is king of varanashipoori.7) He doesn’t have anger or any other flaw. He has always blessings for his devotees. He has no attachment to worldly pleasures and he is a place of peace. Goddess Parvati always live together with him. He is having a kind and sweet nature and fortitude. His throat is decorated by the poison mark. Devote; worship God (Shiva) VishwaNatha who is king of varanashipoori.8) Leave all your desires, don’t criticize others, and don’t commit sins, Enjoy the Samadhi i.e. sit quietly and see the God within you. Devote; The God within you is God VishwaNatha only hence worship God (Shiva) VishwaNatha who is king of varanashipoori.9) Anybody reciting this VishwaNathashtakam of 8 sholaks, will receive the knowledge, Prosperity, Happiness and unlimited fame. After his death will be the recipient of the moksha.10) The devotee who recites this VishwaNathashtakam by sitting near God Shiva (temple) will be the recipient of Shiva Loka and lives with God Shiva happily.11) Here completes the VishwaNathashtakam which is recited by Maharshi Vyas.
